I've tried several different versions of these from different brands, and the stiffer outer rubber coating on these makes all the difference. Without that rubberized layer, these are like yoga mats. I probably would choose the thickest option next time, but 0.56" is acceptable.

For my gym I have the thick all rubber mats but I recently added a pendulum squat so I had to kick the leg extension machine across the way and it needed its own mat but I didn’t want the strong smell of rubber again and the sharp corners so this is a great alternative.
